One question: I saw from your commits (I still had no time to test it)
that now the mail module depends from the workflow one. Is this really
needed? I would like to keep the workflow module optional, while mail
seems to be a more "core" module.
It only depend on a few constants used in MgnlMailFactory. So it is
easy to get rid of.

About modules: I would like to move the modules dms, mail, workflow
to the independent svn path modules (already existing). Doing this we
could start to host other modules there too. This would give a better
overview what belongs to the core and what are optional modules. I
hope too that this would make it easier for third parties to develop
a module since they would get our support (sceletons, base module
implementation, svn, ...)
Just wanted to inform about my intention to do so in the future. What
do you think?
