Anonymous user cannot browse public site

After publishing few simple pages using mapped subscription anonymous user is
not able to browse the public site. A 404 error is thrown...

/www/
/index
mapping used:
fromURI: /www/
toURI: /
On public instance after activation I do get
/index.html page
and I did set default URI as redirect:/index.html
Also, after I log into a public site I am able to browse it...
