Mike,

Accents are considered illegal characters in domain names. Currently you can
only register domains consisting of (a-z) no accents (0-9) and -.

You may be interested in reading our planned introduction of multilingual
domain names. The position paper can be found here:

http://www.opensrs.org/multilingual.html

However this current testbed will only include Asian languages. Further
Latin based extensions will not be implemented by the Verisign Registry
until the new year.

Subject: Problems with accents

We have recently installed opensrs-client v2.2 and the system
is going 'live' for our clients tommorrow. We noticed the
following problem when testing...

If a repeat user uses the registration system (reg_system.cgi)
and logs in with his id and password, his registration information
(company, address etc) which is retrieved from the opensrs
server is not displayed correctly - Any accents in the text
apparently are shown in raw UTF-8 in the text edit fields.

eg. "pro-ação" is shown as "pro-a磯"

The information is correct on the opensrs server (a whois query
confirms this) so the problem is in decoding the info sent by the
server.

Below is the output from verify_install.cgi . Please note that I
upgraded XML::Parser to 2.29 in the hope that it would make
some difference. Unfortunately it did not.

Is this a known problem ?
Is there already a fix ?
Do you need any more information from me ?
Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance,
