For what it's worth, we've seen this problem on NT when the anonymous user
didn't have sufficient privilege to read
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\protocol (which may be analogous to
/etc/protocol on your Linux box). The symptoms are identical: "Unable to
establish socket" when run from the browser, but success when run from the
command line.
Check to see if /etc/protocol is world readable...

Subject: Unable to establish Socket
OK
I have installed the client on over 100 machines, but the latest is really
puzzling.
V2.2, I can run the following from shell of a Cobalt RAQ4
admin@localhost>perl verify_install.cgi
and get the following
<--!Begin output from perl verify_install.cgi-->
_________OpenSRS Client Debugger__________
Operating System : Linux my.ownhost.com 2.2.14C5 #1 Mon May 8

Checking for Crypt::Blowfish : OK (version 2.02)
Checking for Crypt::CBC : OK (version 1.25)
Checking for XML::Parser : OK (version 2.26)
Logging in to OpenSRS server : OK
<!--end output from perl verify_install.cgi-->
Now when I point my browser to the verify_install.cgi, it reports everything
as above except under Logging in to OpenSRS server, it reports "Unable to
Establish Socket"
Let me tell you what it isn't.
1. The Crypt Key (This has been regenerated and regenerated and yes it's for
the live server)
2. Access to the Production server (See output of perl verify_install.cgi
above)
Help!!!!
