Oh, incidentally \write (and likely other whatsits) in leaders are
suppressed in TeX in order not be able to figure out glue setting
decisions without reverting to DVI or log file.
Since LuaTeX offers about a gazillion options to arrive at that info
(and to have FP-dependent typesetting decisions elsewhere), it probably
makes not much sense to maintain this. If ever it did.
actually, control over writes (and such) can be made more clever (was
discussed at some point but postponed); for instance, when toc entries
are in a box, one might want to suppress them in a \copy; okay, this can
be dealt with using macros, but in general a bit more control does not
hurt (low priority stuff)
