Hi all,
With "basecamp" being Mozilla's top priority, every team is being asked
to refocus quarterly goals on B2G wherever possible.
In particular, if it's possible to enhance the B2G product -- or improve
the chances of a B2G task being completed on time -- by deferring a goal
for Android or Desktop, Gary and the rest of our leadership are asking
we do that.
With that in mind, I talked with Rob and some of the Camera API
(getUserMedia) developers, and I think it makes sense to
1) defer/eliminate two Q2 goals:
* Land Platform Decoder [formerly referred to as MPAPI] support for
Android in mozilla-central (we can make this a Q3 goal)
* Resolve our non-free codec position on desktop (push this to
later because this is potentially a massive distraction to critical
path people)
2) focus the getUserMedia work on B2G so we can base the B2G camera app
on getUserMedia({video:true}).
Since the Opus support has already landed and the work for Camera API
still image support for Android is practically done, it makes sense to
keep them on the list.
So the Q2 goals would then read as:
* Land Platform Decoder support for B2G in mozilla-central
* Land the backend (platform) code for the B2G Camera App and for B2G
Camera API still image support (both based on getUserMedia, using core
MediaStreams infrastructure) in mozilla-central in time for Firefox 15
* Land Camera API still image support for Android in mozilla-central for
Firefox 15 (Almost complete)
* Land Opus support (in <audio>, preffed off) in mozilla-central (Done)
NOTE: For the B2G Platform Decoder support, we're not promising to have
it for Firefox 15. We are saying we'll have it landed by the end of
June (since it's a quarterly goal).
