Hey team,
Bug 839055 was file yesterday, the TL;DR is we have a file with
MPEG4-part2 video and AAC-LC audio, and we play the audio only (on
Windows with the WMF backend), whereas Chrome and IE refuse to play the
file outright. We don't play the video because the WMF backend
whitelists supported codecs, and the video codec here is "MPEG4-part2"
and not in the whitelist (i.e. not H.264).
The Ogg backend has always ignored invalid streams in files and played
the valid, and I'd just followed that precedent.
So my question is: should we match behaviour with Chrome and IE and
refuse outright to play files in which all the video or all the audio
streams are unsupported?
What do you guys think?
Chris P.
