Eventually it may be live. However, my next planned step is an
interactive video stream. At the moment, YouTube videos are played
depending on user action.

So, yes, some kind of server is needed that creates the stream. It may
be possible with WebRTC, possibly with Node.js: `npm search webrtc`
gives various results.

However, I don’t like what [I read][1] about performance and limitations
when abusing WebRTC for broadcasting:

  * “Maximum peer connections limit is 256 (on chrome). It means that
    256 users can be interconnected!”

  * “Multi-ports establishment will cause huge CPU and bandwidth usage!”

The second point is more of a concern at the moment.
