Hallöchen dev-platform,
If you're working on Platform stuff, you might have noticed that your friendly Web Compatibility team has recently been causing a bit of bugmail traffic by filing new Bugs in the Web Compatibility::Knowledge Base component and linking them to your Core issues. Some or all of those issues might look like they duplicate a lot of the information already contained in the Core bug, so you might feel tempted to close them - or move them into your components. Please do not, and let me explain what those bugs are for. In short, we're in the process of improving the pipeline handling Web Compatibility reports. Part of this work includes a fully revamped system of collecting and processing bug reports from our users. Another big part of that work is improving how we come up with a "top list of things to work on to improve WebCompat" for all of you. This process includes filing issues for "known root causes of WebCompat breakage" in the Web Compatibility::Knowledge Base component. If the problem is related to a platform issue, these bugs will depend-on a core bug, and they will block one or more real-world site breakage reports in the Web Compatibility::Site Reports component. Having those issues in addition to the core bug allows us to do a few things. We can: - annotate the Knowledge Base bugs with more information that allows us to associate new reports with existing causes, like a list of symptoms, - link new site breakage reports without causing noise in the Core bug (yay!) - group reports caused by things other than a core issue, like specific third-party libraries being broken with specific code paths, broken User-Agent sniffing, and similar things - easily ingest and process all reports in that component with automated tooling that will help us score and rank issues In general, we invite you to ignore those bugs unless we tell you otherwise. If you have questions or feedback about specific bugs, don't be shy—reach out to us in #webcompat:mozilla.org on Matrix or #webcompat on Slack. As soon as we're ready, we will share a more complete overview of our process. Thank you! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "[email protected]" group.
