It seems that our mailing list server does not apply ANY of its mail filters to messages that go through the news->mail gateway, so those filters provide no relief against spam from the news server. I have now taken the next step. I have disabled the news->mail gateway. Messages posted to the mozilla.dev.tech.crypto newsgroup will no longer be forwarded to the dev-tech-crypto mailing list. People who want to post to the list must now subscribe to the list and send email to it. I hope this situation will be temporary. There is some hope that the news groups will go back to being one-way, messages propagating FROM mozilla's news server to other news servers, but not vice versa.
