Thanks for the reply and the info.

After studying the documents you link to I understand that my idea of
what was wrong were far of target. I was however able to narrow things
down to the following problem which I did not find the answer to:

It seems that if the height of an element (in this case BODY) is set
to 100% the actual height is not calculated in strict mode. See the
examples below for a comparison:

http://www.losningsorientert.no/mozcalc_quirksmode.html

The consequence is of course that the heights/widths for elements
contained in BODY neither can be calculated.

Is this correct behavior in strict mode?
Is my dream of a perfect, pure css defined dynamic layout in strict
xhtml shattered (uhhh... disregard the use of -moz-calc)? :-)
