second that. building with GNU toolchain can be problematic on Solaris 9. i think its better integrated with Solaris 10 and obviously Open Solaris but YMMV. i suggest you get Sun Studio [ free download off http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/ ] and build with it, will save you alot of hassle.
