Ok, so let me be the first to admit that I'm working on a retarded project... I'm the developer of OfficePoltergeist (http://OfficePoltergeist.com) and I'm trying to port it to Mozilla to make it work cross platform.

Seems like a good as way as any to dig deeper into XUL/_javascript_/XPCOM and see wassup.

Anyway, I got an HTTP server up and running under Windows XP and was feeling pretty clever about it... until I decided to try it out on my wife's little ibook. Under Firefox 1.5.x I can't get the server to respond at all. Not even through telnet. The Mac OS X internal firewall is off and the extension seems to install and start just fine. The console doesn't reveal any real errors that would screw it up.

Anyway -- I've got the extension here: http://officepoltergeist.com/officepoltergeist.xpi

It is in VERY rough form, but seems to work alright on Firefox 1.5.x for Windows. To get it to work just install the extension, hit the start button, and go to http://127.0.0.1:666/

It's kinda kooky, but you can access Firefox from Explorer... that kind of thing.

Anyway, it's still got a way to go... but if anyone knows anything about Mac Mozilla programming in particular and why this might be an issue, I'd sure appreciate a pointer in the right direction.

Thanks!
