Appists!

Here's the news since last month's update!

*Hotfix Update*

We recently released a hotfix update to address an issue using the Simulator on the latest development builds of Firefox (Nightly and Aurora), where a breaking change was made to Firefox's addon APIs. If you have trouble using the stable release of the addon, make sure you have the latest version <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-os-simulator/>!

*Preview Builds*

We also released several preview builds, the most recent of which just two days ago, on Wednesday, April 17. It contains B2G 18 and Gaia v1 builds from April 15. It also contains a number of enhancements and bug fixes, including support for Windows 8. And we removed non-core apps from Gaia, reducing the size of the packages by 20MB!

*One-Step Refresh*

A couple months ago, in this dev-gaia thread <https://groups.google.com/d/topic/mozilla.dev.gaia/A7sJUyGt6h4/discussion>, Stefan Arentz noted that he wants to be able to "hit Command-R to reload my app." It's a great idea, and after I wrote a feature spec <https://github.com/mozilla/r2d2b2g/issues/422> for it last week, star contributor Luca Greco implemented it in the Simulator in time for the most recent preview build.

So now, when you press Ctrl-R (Command-R on Mac) in the Simulator, it'll refresh the currently running app, including repackaging it (if it's a packaged app), reinstalling it, and restarting it. That means you can go directly back and forth between the Simulator and your code editor; you no longer need to visit the Dashboard between changes!

*Release Endgame*

We're in the endgame for the next stable release of the Simulator, with a single digit number of open issues <https://github.com/mozilla/r2d2b2g/issues?milestone=3&page=1&state=open>. You can help by testing the latest preview build and reporting problems you encounter <https://github.com/mozilla/r2d2b2g/issues/new>. Make sure to specify the OS and version of Firefox you are testing on!

*Integration**With Firefox*

Alex Poirot of the DevTools team is digging into Simulator integration with Firefox and other devtools, and he started a thread on dev-developer-tools about it <https://groups.google.com/d/topic/mozilla.dev.developer-tools/sqI4K5sOZhw/discussion>. Read it for a peek into the future of the Simulator!

*Apps Show & Tell*

And don't forget to attend the Apps Show & Tell <https://wiki.mozilla.org/Apps/ShowAndTells> for demos of new features and enhancements to the Simulator and other Apps-related projects. It takes place Fridays at noon PT (19:00 UTC) in the Mozilla Apps vroom <https://wiki.mozilla.org/Apps/ShowAndTells>!
