We have actually had several IRL discussions on this matter. I think that it is
central enough in showing off the core features that we want to maintain it as
part of the offical Accumulo project. At the same time, we should try reduce
the complexity of the core project to speed up development there. I think the
separate contrib directory is a good compromise.
