FWIW the Bigtop packaging does include Debian packaging. Download the Bigtop source, apply the latest BIGTOP-1175 patch, and type "make accumulo-deb". There's a bunch of dependencies but many of them are listed on the home page (http://bigtop.apache.org/) or will be obvious when you run into them.
