I described this issue http://fusesource.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=779&tstart=0 here but to quickly sum up when ExceptionListener is set on PooledConnection is simply delegates to wrapped ActiveMQConnection so when i.e. 10 connections are created using PCF and on each a new listener is set, only the last one will get notified about problems.
