I do not own a macos system and didn't expected that there are problems with
"readlink -f".
I reworked that, see pull request: https://github.com/apache/activemq/pull/48

If there are additional problems pleas let me know, i will fix that.
Regarding the pidfile: i changed the because this sometimes collides with
configuration managements systems like puppet.
