I have asked the apache infra how we could make rpm and .deb releases (As Robbie pointed out).
I don't really mind which way we choose. as long it's easier to maintain. It sounds the standard way would be the second option as you suggest. why don't you start with that? keep the scripts on a directory such artemis-linux-distros.. and I will wait input from infra on how to release and sign those.. we can then make more changes.
