gemmellr edited a comment on issue #2490: V2 196 URL: https://github.com/apache/activemq-artemis/pull/2490#issuecomment-453129367 Sometimes tests don't pick up issues that may exist and we later find issues prompting more specific tests. You essentially don't need to rely on the compatibility test in cases like this though if you simply don't change the behaviour. Given the old servers are known not to support the feature, changing behaviour against them when not needed doesn't seem beneficial at all, but could be detrimental. If an apparent issue on the first line executed after failing to read new-but-unusable-data sent to an old servers isn't enough reason for pause here, I don't know what would be.
