Suresh Marru commented on AIRAVATA-345:
---------------------------------------

Viknes, For 2013 GSOC projects we have been working on a master project and all
potential students are working for various segments of the master project. But
if yo u are interested, you can submit a proposal to this project. I would
modify this idea as folllows:

Title could be something like - Airavata Monitoring Dashboard

Description: Administrator who deploy Airavata as a service for a group of
users have to manage workflows & job executions monitoring the Workflow Status,
States of jobs in batch queues on supercomputing resources and so forth. This
project is to to provide user friendly html5, java script interfaces to monitor
basic workflow execution tasks, monitoring their progress, get notifications,
view statistics, generate reports and charts.

Note: This should not be confused with the monitoring aspets of the 2013 master
project which is providing more richer and real-time monitoring for individual
users. This project goal is to provide a snapshot of entire system for a
administrator. There is existing code in sandbox which has primitive database
and JSP based dashboard. This could be revisited basing the monitoring data
from Airavata Registry and HTML5, Java Script registries. Ref:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/airavata/sandbox/workflow-monitoring-util/ and
https://svn.code.sf.net/p/ogce/svn/incubator/xWorkflowMonitor/

An idea project will provide these interfaces as light weight web interfaces
which can be embedded into existing gateway projects which call Airavata API.

> For a person who works alot with workflows & job executions, would like to
> have some tools to do common tasks like submitting jobs/workflows, monitoring
> & analyzing. If he/she can use such a tool with very less effort on
> configuring & taking less resources it will be quite useful.
> What I'm suggesting is having some simple tools built as plugins for
> frequently used applications such as web browsers and IDEs. These plugins
> will give the ability for the user to do atleast the basic workflow execution
> tasks, monitoring their progress, get notifications , view statistics etc.
