What’s the tool level support in Maven or similar for cleaning up indentions, 
etc?

to other projects [1] [2]. In addition to the link you send there are other 
like Google’s [3]. Would you be able to draft up a concise document and propose 
a dev list vote? We can then put up on the website and follow it for 
contributor and gsoc students in addition to the dev community.
