Thanks for your reply, Dave.

I tried to comment out both the <Directory> section as well as the 
DocumentRoot line and restarted apache. Unfortunately in the error log 
it still shows req.user is None. Git says "The requested URL returned 
error: 500", if that matters.

Any other ideas?
