Scott Creeley commented on AMBARI-8490:
---------------------------------------
[~afernandez]
Thanks for the reply, I tried what you mentioned (even though it didn't quite
understand it) and it had no effect. I'm not sure what that file is really
used for, there are no references to it in the code (if I search on
*gluster-env*) and I looked at an older version of the code and this file
hasn't changed in a very long time (I see this in
2.0.6.GlusterFS/services/GLUSTERFS/package/templates and in 2.1.GlusterFS
stack)- so did something change recently that require this file to have a
different format with those {braces}.
I think the bigger question or real issue is, shouldn't the
/etc/hadoop/conf/hadoop-env.sh file get freshly written/updated on each cluster
install/deploy? This file does not get updated now for some reason, its some
kind of default file, meaning ambari didn't touch it during actual cluster
install. If I look at older installed and working clusters for versions of
1.7.0 and even 1.6.1 - I can see on each cluster that this file
(/etc/hadoop/conf/hadoop-env.sh) is updated and edited with latest date and the
file actually has the values that are from the hadoop-env.xml file. I do see
the files like /etc/hadoop/conf/core-site.xml and so on being updated, but none
of the *-env.sh files are updated or touched...so maybe something changed that
is not reflected in the 2.1.GlusterFS stack that is not allowing the hadoop-env
to get set?
for example here is a 1.6.1 /etc/hadoop/conf/hadoop-env.sh for 2.1.GlusterFS
(notice that it is a direct copy of the <content> node in the
/2.1.GlusterFS/services/GLUSTERFS/configuration/hadoop-env.xml:

And more over nothing has changed in the 2.1.GlusterFS stack in quite a while
and it was working a few weeks ago, so wondering what other core changes (or
some refactoring) might have occured that could possibly explain this and if we
can identify that I can fix these stacks to comply with new standards.
thanks again for taking the time to help me on this!
