Alexander Denissov commented on AMBARI-8695:
--------------------------------------------

Great to see common services taking shape !

We noticed, however, that the service definitions are still very specific to
HDP, including:
- using stack version (2.2. or later) to check whether versioned RPM feature is
used
- using /usr/hdp/current and other file system paths that assume HDP
installation
- using hdp-select command that is only available in HDP distribution

While we would want to re-use common service definitions in the PHD stack,
these issues make it impossible to reuse the common services in stacks
definitions other than HDP. We would like to see a level of abstractions put in
place so that no explicit reference to specific stack versions, HDP file path
and proprietary scripts are used. We are ready to collaborate on the efforts to
make these changes happen.
