Robert Nettleton created AMBARI-8771:
----------------------------------------

Summary: Blueprints: Add support for deploying HDFS NameNode HA
Clusters
                 Key: AMBARI-8771
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-8771
             Project: Ambari
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: ambari-server
    Affects Versions: 1.7.0
            Reporter: Robert Nettleton
            Assignee: Robert Nettleton
             Fix For: 2.0.0

It should be possible to deploy a cluster using Blueprints that can support
HDFS NameNode HA.

Currently in Ambari, the User Interface supports adding HA support for
NameNodes to a running cluster.

In the Blueprint case, the HA support for NameNodes must be added at the
initial cluster deployment/startup, since Blueprints does not support an
interactive model.

The support for NameNode HA in Ambari 2.0 should at least support an "expert
mode" option, where the user adds all of the required HA configuration to the
Blueprint or cluster creation template in order to setup an HA cluster. In
future releases, it may be possible to auto-generate some of this
configuration, in order to ease the burden of HA setup for the
Blueprints/Ambari user.

This work will involve changes to the Blueprint validation code, since our
stacks do not currently support HA directly. It should be possible to deploy a
NameNode HA Blueprint without turning off Blueprint validation.
