Eric Yang commented on AMBARI-10472:
------------------------------------
Nate, the compatibility of software stack should not be tracked in Ambari.
Rather, software stack dependency compatibility can be tracked by repositories
metadata themselves by distro signing package. Ambari needs to have the
recipes and version tracking outside of Ambari to avoid having to run Ambari
upgrade each time that software stack needs to be upgraded. Today, upgrade
stack of software is tightly coupled with Ambari upgrade. It would be nice if
software stack upgrade can be decoupled from Ambari upgrade. This JIRA is
going in the tightly couple direction, which I think, is a suboptimal solution.
