Thanks Viraj and Jialiang Cai for your responses. 1. Ambari releases only source code, not binaries. Because of this, release is not required to be created for every supported os. 2. Branch-2.7 is dependent on the HDP stack which is not available even for testing. So as part of release we just test ambari-server and ambari-agent start properly and do some basic sanity. Real testing has to be done by those who have the HDP stack binaries.
Based on these two facts, I am more inclined towards using the same existing process to create RC and do the same verifications. Maybe docker based RC creation and verification we can do for branch-2.8 release.
