Hello Bigtop Community,

My name is *Surafel Temesgen*, and I’m currently working on a project
called *Debo*—a lightweight, open-source Hadoop cluster management system
that draws inspiration from tools like Apache Ambari.

Right now, I'm focused on *cleaning up Debo’s existing codebase* and
ensuring it’s easier to maintain and understand. As I work toward
stabilizing the current implementation, I’d like to gather early feedback
from experienced folks in the Bigtop community—particularly around areas
where Debo could integrate or align better with the packaging and
deployment philosophies that Bigtop champions.

*What Debo Currently Does:*

   -

Uses publicly available binary distributions to install Hadoop components
   -

Provides a simple CLI-based service control interface
   -

   Collects system and service-level metrics
   -

Is structured with modularity in mind to support core Hadoop components
   independently

*Why Reach Out to Bigtop?*
I believe Bigtop’s focus on building and packaging the Hadoop ecosystem
makes it the perfect community to:

   -

Share feedback on how Debo might handle installation and packaging more
   effectively
   -

Suggest ways to reduce external dependency on binary sources
   -

Explore ideas for integration with Bigtop-built artifacts or
   provisioning tools

I’m *not yet adding new features*, but I want to ensure the cleaned-up
foundation is sound before doing so. If there are areas where you feel Debo
could benefit from Bigtop's experience or tooling, I would deeply
appreciate your input.

You can also find my introduction to Debo on the Apache Incubator mailing
list here:

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
