If I try and discourage you from writing a book, will you take me seriously?

dont do it for the money
-So far I think my gross earnings have been in the $5000 mark, the US gov
has taken their share and now the UK tax return paperwork is trickling in.

dont do it for the fun
-its fun for the first three to four months, but gets progressively more
painful

dont do it for the exciting social life opportunities
-every weekend, every evening from november 2001 till july 2003.

if you do want to proceed, skip the thorough and rigorous bits if you can
(like the applied ant section in our book). They are too advanced for the
mass market, yet take more effort than the introductory chapters. And get a
co-author -if either one of us had written our book alone it would be a lot
weaker, and we'd have had a much harder time of writing it.

If you want fame in the developer community, why not take up speaking at
conferences. It's a lot easier and more fun.

It seems so. In the past two years I read a lot of articles about Ant in
several
newspapers (iX - www.heise.de/iX, Java Magazin - www.javamagazin.de, Java
Spektrum - www.javaspektrum.de, ...)

I thought about writing a book for my own, and the publisher liked that idea
to have a book about that topic
in German. "German users prefer a German book - if there is one." they said.
But several other things to do ... (building a Forrest-based website :-),
music, dance, ...)
Maybe I had a person who can correct that book (Stefan lives near to me, I
the info on his Apache website is uptodate).
