What you would like would be useful to prevent the "wrong" targets from being called. But I wonder whether this change would not make ant unnecessary complex. I would like to see what the other committers think about this one.
For me, the priority for ant in the immediate future is rather to go on fixing bugs such as : - problems in handling of multiple source paths in <javac/>, http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3198 - the fact that <jar/> does not index multiple jars in INDEX.lst when the Class-Path attribute mentions several jars, http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=14255 - plus a lot of other "user" bugs, affecting specific tasks, particularly some specific J2EE tasks.
