This should be pattern or patternset#nameentry, it is used for "include" 
and "exclude"
includesfile and excludesfile nested elements.

what about <patternset refid="foo"/>?
 

This is fine...
 <patternset id="xml.pattern">
   <include name="**/*.xml"/>
 </patternset>
 <copy todir="classes">
   <fileset dir="src">
     <patternset refid="xml.pattern"/>
   </fileset>
 </copy>
works ok.
