I think the utf8 locale of suse is interfering.
Maybe we should make the contributors file a UTF-8 XML doc;
contributors.xml, which we could lay out differently on demand.

I will do the deed of moving everything to a UTF8 XML file, if nobody

Splitting out the surnames makes sorting easier though we will end up
with a slightly broken multi-surname sort.
