Ok, I have done a little bit history:
<project name="test" default="all" basedir=".">
<target name="all">
<echo>${ant.version}</echo>
<delete includeEmptyDirs="true" failonerror="false">
<fileset dir="aaa/bbb"/>
</delete>
</target>
</project>
on several Ant versions:
[echo] Apache Ant version 1.7alpha compiled on June 15 2005
[delete] C:\TEMP\ant-test\aaa\bbb not found.
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
[echo] Apache Ant version 1.6.5 compiled on June 2 2005
[delete] C:\TEMP\ant-test\aaa\bbb not found.
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
[echo] Apache Ant version 1.6.4 compiled on May 19 2005
[delete] C:\TEMP\ant-test\aaa\bbb not found.
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
[echo] Apache Ant version 1.6.0 compiled on December 18 2003
[delete] C:\TEMP\ant-test\aaa\bbb not found.
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
[echo] Apache Ant version 1.5.4 compiled on August 12 2003
[delete] C:\TEMP\ant-test\aaa\bbb not found.
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
[echo] Ant version 1.4.1 compiled on October 11 2001
[delete] C:\TEMP\ant-test\aaa\bbb not found.
BUILD SUCCESSFUL
Ant version 1.3 compiled on March 2 2001
[echo] ${ant.version}
BUILD FAILED
C:\TEMP\ant-test\build.xml:4: Class org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.Delete
doesn't support the "failonerror" attribute
So the expected behaviour since years is "BUILD SUCCESSFUL".
Havent checked it on HEAD yet...
