jpackage is seen by a lot of linux people as the official

Certainly its better packaged than the sun stuff, even though I think
its RPM-centric.
I've just installed ubuntu on an old laptop (=='energy efficient home
datacentre with extended UPS facility'). Comes with gcj as the 'java'
command, which is interesting. I will play with ant on it for a bit
before I switch to JDK1.5.09
