Private stuff is there to reduce maintenance costs. Once something is protected
we have to assume that a subclass is using it, and leave it alone forever. 

For the specifics of the <get> class, there is a set of http tasks in the antlib
SVN sandbox which is designed for subclassing, with <httppost>, <httpget> and
<httphead> already there for your use. Its not formally released, but if you
want to help bring it up to a released state (testing is the main barrier right
now), it would be welcome.
