Yes, I've implemented a possible way to deal with it in a branch, see https://github.com/apache/ant/commit/68b846a4c27361cce2b6d7e9c60ca697f980913e This is based on 1.9.x and I'd merge it to both branches if all of you feel comfortable with the approach.
