Hi,
it should be possible but i can give you only a hint becasue i have no time to test it.
The service DocumentIndexFormat has a property LevelFormat which should be an XIndexReplace (the docu is wrong here and i have already submitted an issue). The XIndexReplace (service DocumentIndexLevelFormat) interface allows you to modify format properties of the index. See the DcoumentIndexLevelFormat service description.
