Do you mean a search functionality to be let loose on IDL documentation or on a Calc sheet?

I think he has covered the subject very well. It, or rather he, helped me a lot.
In the former case the same document, section 7.13. Search And Replace <#7.13.Search%20And%20Replace%7Coutline> (text), may provide some code.
I am not sure; I don't do much with text files.
