Putting it in the documentation really doesn't solve the problem,
though.

I really can't understand why this would not be a good idea. For
example, I have written a client app using the OOo 1.9.x sdk, which
uses functionality that is not backward compatible. Why would I want
the Loader to find an instance of OOo 1.1.x, which is guaranteed to
fail with my app?
