I'm afraid that it will take longer than a month. So using examples is the best you can do now. If your menu or toolbar only shall be bound to macros you don't need a protocolhandler.xcu at all, only an Addon.xcu. If you take the CodeSnippetCreator (as recommended by Paolo) or another basic Add-On, read its Addon.xcu and compare it with the menu or toolbar you see in OOo when you install the package you should be able to understand how it works. Everything else should be in the DevGuide, but if you have a concrete question about a special element or code line in the xcu file I'm sure that you can get an answer on this list.
