hey check this page out <http://soldc.sun.com/articles/multiproc/multiproc.html> it tells me two things: - on linux with ptmalloc in glibc, the stock performance should be almost as good as with hoard - on solaris there is a stock "mtmalloc" library which is almost as good as ptmalloc and hoard, no licensing issue this eliminates the worry of a hoard recommendation doesn't it? ok ok there's other beasts such as AIX and IRIX which run on big boxes. but, um, oh my biases are showing again aren't they? *studies netcraft operating system numbers* *justifies biases* -dean
