Ok, I'll believe you, since I'm sure you've tried this on more systems than I have ;-)
Another possibility, FWIW, is to port the gen-make.py code from Subversion that generates VS6 and VS.NET build files automatically, rather than keeping manually generated ones in the tree.
This, of course, is a marvelous idea.
Unfortunately it requires someone with more Win32-fu than me to do it.
2c US - I'll invest some effort with you. ITMT the suggestion of using either native Win32 svn or converting with build/lineends.pl is the way to go tonight.
Sounds good to me. I'll add 'try to bring over more of the svn build generator stuff' to the todo list, although I don't know when I'll get a chunk of time to work on it.
