Yann comments on the Linux manpage's comments on negative fd. I just looked on MacOS, and the (BSD) page is silent on the subject. I guess there's no such thing as an authoritative reference? In the absence of such, I'd be reluctant to change this in 1.6, but open to something for 1.7. I may comment on the bugzilla report. -- Nick Kew
