This post still sits in a pending state waiting for approval for some weird
reason - is this forum dead or what???

Anyway, thought I post an update - made an attempt to downgrade archiva from
2.2.0 to 2.0.1 and the central url now seem to stall - A message is
displayed at the top of the page saying "File:
http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2// does not exist "

The weird two forward slashes don't correspond to the url I entered -
actually entered "http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2"; - guess this is a
simple glitch in the web gui - if I change the url to contain a trailing /
the message returned contains three(!) forward slashes - what I dont
understand though is why the url to maven central can be resolved (2.2.0
display a message pointing to admin and logs, but nothing useful in the logs
- 2.0.1 display a url in error and the icon showing the connection seem to
go for ever...
