Brian Hudson, our Google Summer of Code intern, has been working on resolving some of the Swing/SWT integration issues. He's already made good progress and some of his changes were just merged into the trunk.
There is now a dependency on Albireo, the Swing/SWT integration plugin, so you'll need to follow the directions at http://wiki.eclipse.org/Albireo_Installation to download and install the plugin.
