The only things like a charter or vision statement I've
ever been able to find are things that the original
developer wrote back in the last millennium.  I've never
seen anything remotely current or related to the things
that the developers actually focus on.

Although there's only a small handful of core developers,
my sense is that we have pretty widely divergent views
of what would be good for the project.

It's hard work to hash this stuff out, but it's important.
