Hello all!
According to the Google timeline, the application deadline is now passed
so I expect no more applications to drop in.
We have received 42 applications in the project. The mentors now have
some work to do to review and rank the student's proposal. The students
should monitor their applications because sometimes additional
information is required to make a decision.
This will be going on until April the 11th when the final list will be
published. Currently we don't know how many student projects we will get
from Google. I have prematurely registered that we would like 10
projects because in my wildest dreams, that is what I think we can
manage. Once we have reviewed and ranked the proposals I will adjust the
registered number to what we can actually manage. Last year we had 8
projects registered and got 4 so I expect there to be some
disappointments once Google has decided.
For the mentors, please go through all the applications and give them
your evaluation points. Let me suggest the following approach:
-2 The proposal is inappropriate for the project, candidate for Assign
to Google.
-1 The proposal is appropriate but the student doesn't feel right for
us.
0 Indifference.
+1 Either the project or the student is very interesting
+2 Interesting project and student.
+4 Recommendation of this project. (With or without "Willing to
mentor").
Most importantly, register if you are willing to mentor. Let me know if
there is any problem with this or if you have other suggestions.
Discussing specific applications is perhaps best done in the evaluation
comments of the application and not by mail.
/Linus
