Statistics aren't a good way to look at this. We probably have fewer applications this year than last, but the quality is higher.
History isn't a good way to look at this. In the past we've been allocated as many slots as we could reasonably handle, but there's no guarantee that Google will follow the same procedure this year. At the end of the day, most people really only care about one thing -- whether they got accepted or not. There's no way to answer that until the final acceptances are announced by Google.
