Writing into <workspace>/../build is a complete non-starter. In
addition causing a conflict with multiple workspaces, it could easily
be the root directory on Windows machines or a directory that the user
doesn't have access to on Unix machines.

Writing into <workspace>/build isn't as bad, but isn't great because
it pollutes the top level workspace directory that is used to hold
projects. I left it like that because I ran out of energy to work on
it, not because it was a desirable solution.

In my opinion, the sub projects shouldn't even know where the
integration directory is. They should build their components in the
context of their own project <workspace>/<project>/eclipse-build or
argouml/src/<project>/build and then the top level build can collect
all the components and integrate them wherever it wants. The directory
argouml/src/argouml-build/build or
<workspace>/argouml-build/eclipse-build would fit into what we have
defined already without creating conflicts.

As far as not changing anything in the existing build structure goes,
that's the constraint that I was working under 2 years ago when I set
up the original Eclipse build structure and is the cause of a
substantial amount of the complexity. If we're not going to work
towards converging on a single coherent build structure for both
Eclipse and Ant, we shouldn't have bothered with all the disruption.
